It’s October! It’s the beginning of the 3rd quarter! Shnikies! Where did the year go?!??! Didn’t we just observe Memorial Day and the 4th of July??
October is my favorite month of the year. Typically in southern California, the nights start getting cooler (down to a brisk 60-something), the days get shorter, and trees begin to show their color. October is when my wife has her birthday, and we celebrate our wedding anniversary. And as a photographer, October has been my favorite time to travel around the western USA, in lovely states such as Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico, capturing photographs of places that I love and that move me.
For business, October is the beginning of the 3rd quarter, and some companies start to tighten up their print budgets, and cut back on the printing for the balance of the year. Other clients, ones that have not used all their print budgets, do the opposite, and ramp up print to make sure that they spend their budgets so they have the same budget the following year.
October reminds us that we’re entering the hectic Holiday season, with Halloween kicking it off (used to be Thanksgiving was the kick off), followed by Thanksgiving, then Christmas. It can get overwhelming for many at this time of year, what with businesses either doing more, or doing less, combined with our personal lives demanding more.
For me, fall (or the fall substitute we have here in California) is a time to enjoy, and to look forward to the Holidays, or to warm fires in the fireplace on a cool night. A time when you drag out those favorite sweaters and pack the cargo shorts away. A time to cuddle with the kids while watching a movie on Netflix.
As we move into fall, I hope that all of my faithful readers and followers will enjoy the season, and have success in all their year-end projects.
